Mountain Biking World Cup Les Gets
On the 2nd July my best friend Lissy arrived in Morzine after deciding she also wanted to embark on a summer of adventure and applied for the same job as me. We spent her first few days showing Lissy around, familiarising her with all our favourite spots in the town and at the lake. A place where we loved to grab a midday coffee was Solide café who served up the most delicious coffee and had a variety of tasty breakfast and lunch options.
On the 5th and 6th July, we ventured out of Morzine and into the next town, Les Gets where the Mountain Biking World Cup was hosted. We got a pizza lunch on the main strip in town and then headed up the hill to catch some of the downhill racing. The atmosphere was unmatched with people cheering and pulling old chainsaw motors in the attempt encourage the riders by making as much noise as possible.
Later, the excitement continued in the town where hundreds
of people gathered into the bars and throughout the streets to commence the
festivities and celebrations. After joining in with the socialising and a sing and dance to the music, we hopped on some bikes and enjoyed the long, downhill
ride back to Morzine and back up to Thalassa from there.
The mountain biking world cup is definitely worth a visit if it happens to be on during your visit to Morzine or Les Gets, with an amazing atmosphere where you are in to mountain biking or not it is an enjoyable activity for the whole family or a group of friends.
