Morzine to Lac de Montriond Hike
After the lengthy process of obtaining a visa and the right to work in France as a British passport holder,
I finally arrived in Morzine on the 7th June 2024. I began to meet the first of what would be my 18
house mates living in Chalet Thalassa. We were shown to our rooms, and Faye and I, still strangers to
each other were both relieved to find out we had been placed together in the best room of the house.
After unpacking our lives out of one singular 23kg suitcase each we were keen to get some food from
the supermarket, which we soon found out to be a 20 minute walk downhill but we spent the time
getting to know each other and sharing our excitement for the summer ahead.
The weather remained pretty gloomy for the first couple of weeks in Morzine but we had heard of the
infamous Lac De Montriond and knew we had to see it for ourselves. With it being interseason
however, busses to the lake were not running yet so we had to make our own way there. Luckily all
trails and roads around Morzine are very well signposted and kept us heading in the right direction. The
10km hike from our accommodation to the lake, beginning along the river then ascending into the
woods took around 2 hours and was
mostly flat other than a gentle incline towards the end.
Despite the sun still fighting its way out of the clouds, we believed it rude not to take our first plunge
into the turquoise blue water. Sitting at 10 degrees the water completely took our breath away, but
made it all the more exhilarating. As we sat on the banks edging to warm up the sun finally made its
appearance, giving us the heat we were yearning for.
My first week in Morzine was truly memorable, thanks to the warm and welcoming people I met. The
highlight was our unforgettable trip to the breath taking Lac de Montriond, which made the experience
even more rewarding and special.
